St. Louis Bertrand's experience with a deceased brother priest
It was 1557 when Valencia was hit by the second wave of the plague, it spread rapidly through the city and left everyone trembling in fear. A certain Father Clement wanted to prepare for a good death, in the eventuality that he might get infected, he went to confession, and it was St. Louis Bertrand who hear his confession. Before leaving, he told the saint, "Father, if it should please God to call me now, I shall return and make known to you my condition in the other life."
Unfortunately, Fr. Clement indeed caught the disease and killed him. The night after he died, he appeared to the saint and told him that he was in purgatory because there were still some faults for which he should make satisfaction. The poor soul begged the saint to have his religious community pray for him. Immediately, Saint Louis went to the Prior and told him what he experienced. The Prior then requested that prayers and masses be said for Fr. Clement.
Six days later, St. Louis was hearing confession and a man who lived in town told him something peculiar. The man knew nothing of Fr. Clement's background, but the priest appeared to him. In that apparition, the earth opened, and the soul of Fr. Clement resembled a dazzling star and rose towards heaven.
